Marty Reid leaving the NHRA Booth (Sorta)
Category: NHRA / Drag Racing | Posted January 27, 2006 by Brian Losness | Source: ESPN/ Competition Plus
Marty Reid, co-host of the NHRA POWERade coverage on ESPN2 along with Mike Dunn, will move over to the ESPN/ABC broadcast team for IRL races this season. Joining Reid (at right with Dunn) in covering Indy Racing League races will be just-retired NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace and former IRL driver Scott Goodyear.
Reid has worked with ESPN since 1982, hosting NHRA drag races the past four seasons. A spokesman for NHRA said that Reid would continue to work on the NHRA broadcasts that don't conflict with the 14 IRL events which run from April 2 through Aug. 27. A new co-host will join Dunn on the dates Reid will not be available, but no name has been announced yet. (photo courtesy NHRA) [1-26-2006]
Jason and Cindy Line Proud New Parents
Category: NHRA / Drag Racing | Posted January 27, 2006 by Brian Losness
(1-26-2006) - Jason and Cindy Line became proud parents of a boy when Cindy gave birth to Jack Vincent Line at 12:46 p.m. in a local Charlotte-area hospital on Tuesday, January 24.
Jack Vincent Line crossed the scales at 7 pounds and 2 ounces and was 21 inches long. Both Cindy and the new baby are doing fine, as is Jason, who took a few days off to admire and spoil his new offspring.
Jason drives the KB Racing Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock Pontiac GTO on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series and finished second in the 2004 POWERade point standing and third in 2005.
Jason will take to the track when the NHRA CARQUEST Auto Parts Winternationals, the season-opening event on the 2006 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, unfolds at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona (Calif.) on Feb. 9-12.
KB Racing is owned by Las Vegas businessman Ken Black. KB Racing fields two Pro Stock cars, driven by Greg Anderson and Jason Line on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series. Anderson has won three consecutive POWERade Pro Stock Championships (2003-2005). Line finished third in the 2005 POWERade point standings and was honored with the 2004 Automobile Club of Southern California Road to the Future award, presented to the most outstanding rookie in a professional category. This year KB Racing will also begin fielding a Top Fuel Dragster, managed by Kalitta Motorsports, with rookie Top Fuel driver Hillary Will handling the driving duties.
John Force and Gary Scelzi stout in Vegas
Category: NHRA / Drag Racing | Posted January 25, 2006 by Brian Losness
On Sunday night John Force fired a shot heard around the drag racing world as he ran the second quickest time ever by a funny car and the quickest time ever to 1000 ft by any nitro car. The fact is 4.67 didn't get peoples attention, the fact that his time to the 1000 foot mark was a mind numbing 3.997. Read More...
Testing underway in Vegas.
Category: NHRA / Drag Racing | Posted January 22, 2006 by Brian Losness
Testing under way at Las Vegas. The funny cars have been the class of the field, but the race track has been seems to be the thing that the dragsters are fighting. The crew at "The Strip" have been putting tons of VHT on the track and some of the crew chief are stating that the track are better then national event conditions. This is why we haven't seen the Schumacher dragsters here. The JFR team have been the class of the fields, Force at 4.73 and Hight at 4.74, then Scelzi at 4.81.
In Top Fuel, JR Todd is low, (thats right) JR Todd in the Menards Top Fueler at 4.63 at 277. Arley Langlo has run faster than Larry Dixon. That's why they call it a test and tune. Arley didn't blow up or burn anything either.
In Pro Stock Bob Panella in the Joe Wheeler tuned Bailey and Panella Chevy Cobolt 6.81 at 202.03. (It corrects to 6.66 at sea level.)
