Getting Stuff Off my Chest!!!
Category: OpEd | Posted July 13, 2006 by Brian Losness

First off I know I have not been very good at keeping this up to speed. I go along well for a while then, I get a huge case of the stupids and don't do so well. So for the two people who check this page out on a regular basis I say sorry, and will attempt to do better.

Now with that said, I would like to take a few moments to tell you (both of you) who read this site that I will start doing interviews of local racers and regional and national racers also on this page. I hope to increase traffic to the site and hope that we can get at least two more people to read this damn thing. ( It would be a 100 percent increase, thinking positive.)

I am also going to start writing about things, the way I see them, and if you have something to say email me back your response and I will post it in the Op Ed section. Two things: If you are going to call someone or some group, be sure of your facts and back them up. Or make sure you clearly state that it is your opinion, but be ready to take the heat. Number Two. Write what you feel, but keep the profanity on the mild side. Trust me I know how hard that sometimes can be.

I am now going to post a peice I wrote for Boise Sports Net, and a couple of interviews we did for that magazine.

Thanks again to Kim and Jayne for your loyal readership, and tell one friend each to check out the news side of Nitrophoto.

Category: INDY CAR / F1 / Open Wheel | Posted March 26, 2006 by Brian Losness

Dan Wheldon with a new team this year but with the same result of last year, as Wheldon driving this year for Target/Chip Ganassi once again took the victory at the IRL Toyota Indy 300, at Homestead/Miami Speedway. Wheldon used a brilliant outside move in passing race leader Helio Castro-Neves in the middle of turn two and was able to hold off the Marlboro Team Penske driver for a very close fourteen one-thousands of a second victory. Following closely in third was Castro-Neves' team mate Sam Hornish. Victory lane celebrations was some what subdued because of the earlier days events with Paul Dana.

The next IRL event is next weekend at the road course race on the streets of St Petersberg.

Sad Day in Florida for IRL Family
Category: INDY CAR / F1 / Open Wheel | Posted March 26, 2006 by Brian Losness

What started out to be a promising day in the sun for the competitors on the IRL tour came crashing back to earth as at just a few moments after 10 am eastern time Paul Dana driver of one of the three Rahal Letterman team cars and Ed Carpenter driver of and son in law of IRL founder Tony George, Vision race team got together in a accident during the morning warm up session. Carpenter lost control of the his Dalara backed it into the fence and when it came back down the race track several other racers avoided the spinning car but Dana for some unknown reason did not seem to slow down or pick up the spinning car and Dana drive right through the side of the car, at the engine and gear box area sending Dana's car high into the air and then back across the track and head on into the wall on the outside of turn two. Both drivers where extracated from their shattered vehicles and life flighted to a Jackson Memorial Hospital, in Miami, which is a level one trama unit. But due to all the efforts of on scene medical staff and the team at the trama unit, 30 year old Paul Dana was pronounced dead a little after 12:00pm eastern time. Paul Dana is survived by his wife Tonya, and would have turned 31 on April 15th.

Greg Anderson came within 4 thousands of a second of setting a new national record during the 3rd round of qualifing at the Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainsville, Florida. Andersons 6.637 is just shy of the national record 6.633 he set at this race last year. One more session is still on tap for this afternoon. Stay tuned this could get good.

Gators Start on High Note.
Category: NHRA / Drag Racing | Posted March 17, 2006 by Brian Losness

Aussie Dave Grubnic leads the way in Top Fuel at the Gatornationals presented by AC Delco. Grubnic's 4.55 323.62 was good enough for the number one position. Morgan Lucas in the Lucas Oil Dragster was number two, followed by Brandon Berstein in the Budweiser. All three cars in the 4.55 range. Phoenix winner "Hot Rod" Fuller settled into the number five spot with the Dave Powers Valvoline Dragster.

In the fuel coupe group it was that guy John "Freakin" Force in the number one spot with a second session 4.75. Sitting in the number two position with a very good 4.76 in the new look Matco Tools Dodge Charger. Number two JFR driver Robert Hight is holded up in the third position. Pulling up the rear of the field is Ron Capps in the Brut Stratus, from DSR.

Now for Romper Room (aka) Pro Stock. With Greg Anderson and Warren Johnson blowing raspberry's and sticking their tongues out at each other earlier this week, it would make it interesting for the first race in the east. Weather and track elevation (or lack there of ) usually makes for mine shaft conditions at the Gainsville Raceway.
Anderson used these conditions to his advantage as he sent his Summit Pontiac GTO to the top of the list with a nice 6.66 second run. Larry Morgan came into the second place in the ZMax Stratus with a 6.68. Bringing up the top three is new dad Jason Line in the other Summit GTO from GA/KB racing. Line ran a very solid 6.69. Warren Johnson who was almost put in time out came in at number 5 with another 6.69.
Max Naylor who wadded up his Jagermeister Stratus during testing in Georgia, on Wednesday, was driving a back up Larry Morgan Stratus but struggled and is last of the 25 cars trying for the 16 slots.
