JR Todd has once again showed he and crew chief Jimmy Walsh are the real deal as they once again have taken out the man to be the man at Sonoma. Todd waded through a field of tough cars to meet up with reigning Top Fuel World Champion Tony Schumacher in the final. Once again the former jr dragster star showed his driving prowess as he left first and never trailed in his 4.61 to 4.67 second win over Schumacher. Beating Tony and that team once for your first trophy ever is like a dream. To do it twice in three races is unreal. I can't even believe this is happening. You work so hard just to get to this level and you don't even think what it will be like to actually win."

In funny car, it was one of the JFR crew that made their way to the winners circle, that was a very shaggy looking Eric Medlin. Medlin who hadn't won for nearly one calendar year. He defeated the guy who's place he took at JFR Tony Pedregon in the Q Power Monte Carlo for Pedregon Brothers Racing. Eric on the second race of using a very unique looking two hole injector hat, that is suppose to give much better air flow into the motor at high speeds. Medlin ran a very stout 4.85 second run to cover the slowing Pedregons 5.02.

SONOMA, Calif., (July 27, 2006)- The beautiful, rolling auburn hills of
the Napa Valley wine region will be shaken this weekend as the third race of
the famed "Western Swing" comes to Infineon Raceway for the FRAM Autolite NHRA
Nationals. Bob Vandergriff Jr. hopes to be shaking up the Top Fuel field with
his UPS dragster during this visit. The UPS team, led by crew chief Jim Dupuy
just finished assembling a new chassis in hope that this will bring back the
consistency that Vandergriff needs to be competitive as the 2006 NHRA POWERade
season begins to race to a finish. Dupuy has had the car running strong,
placing it in the top half of the qualifying field in the last three out of four
races.

Pepsi Nightfire Nationals
Category: NHRA / Drag Racing | Posted July 26, 2006 by Brian Losness

The Pepsi Nightfire Nationals at Firebird Raceway Boise

The 35th Annual Pepsi Nightfire Nationals is one of the largest independent drag races in the nation, and one of the largest motorsports events in the Pacific Northwest. This year the Nightfires are truly going to be old school event as the headliners for this event are going to be both Nostalgia Top Fuel Dragsters and Nostalgia Fuel Funny Cars. You old timers remember those cars from the 70’s that actually look like the cars they represented. Mustangs looked like a Mustang and Vegas looked like Vegas. In addition to T/F and F/C those daring young men in their Fuel Altereds will also be on hand. The cool thing about the Nightfires is that not only do the transformers (modern fuel funny cars with 23 t-bucket bodies and wings on them) show up but so do the traditional short wheel base fuel altereds. In addition to all that nitro, the gang from the West Coast Pro Mods is looking to have a record field of competitors at the Nightfires. Pro Mods arguably put on one of the best shows of the weekend. These teams pride themselves in good side-by-side racing from start to finish.
